The OPTAPHONE 2000 First Access Network (FAN) uses digitally controlled, narrowband FM radio transmission to deliver network dialtone to remote FAN Field Stations up to 50 km from the FAN Exchange Station. Up to eight nearby subscribers, connected to the Field Station with copper, can share two voice channels.

The result: high-quality, full-featured, shared- access dialtone at a breakthrough per-line equipment cost up to 60 percent lower than any currently available wireless local loop system of this size.

First Access Network makes it economically feasible to move rural telephone service beyond the "one line per town" syndrome. For the price of two single-line stations you can install a FAN Field Station with up to eight individual income-producing telephonelines on private subscriber premises and/or at payphones or public calling stations. New lines and trunk channels can be installed rapidly and inexpensively.
