Forty Six Students Complete Work Study Attachment
The Company has again this year met its social responsibility to help prepare young students for the world of work.
Forty six students from various secondary, technical and tertiary institutions from several areas in Guyana completed a six week attachment with the Company.
The work study programme is done in collaboration with the Ministry of Education.
The students were attached to the departments and locations within the Company and were exposed to the hands-on training in the departments they were attached to.
Speaking to the students at the closing, C.E.O., Singh described them as representatives of a generation to which we are looking to take us forward. He expressed the hope that they would be taking with them positive attitudes and traitsfrom staff they had worked with.
The ceremony was chaired by Ms. Juliana Johnson a Bishops’ High School student attached to the Public Relations Department. Student representatives attached to the other departments spoke of the rewarding experiences they all had in learning about the many aspects of the telecommunication industry. They also made recommendations on how they think some areas of the Company’s operations could be improved.
Deputy General Manager, Terry Holder expressed the hope that the end of the work study attachment would not mark the end of the students’ relationship with GT&T. “We will continue to follow your progress through school and beyond,” he said “and we hope that you, in turn, will be ambassadors of the blue.”
Representing the Ministry of Education, Ms. Bonita Hunter, Senior Education Officer praised GT&T’s involvement, which allowed the students to gain meaningful experience which can help them to make good career choices.
