Newly erected towers provide seamless cellular coverage

The erection of the Charity cellular tower has completed the erection of the six promised additional towers which provides almost seamless cellular coverage to the Company’s customers.

The Charity tower which was completed in early June will serve customers from Anna Regina to Charity.

With the introduction of Calling Party Pays (CPP) and Pre-Paid services the customer base grew from a mere 15,000 to its current number of over 100,000

The new tower brings to a total 22 towers, an addition of 10 since the company was granted permission to introduce the several new mobile plans.

The success of the introduction of the cellular plans with the consequent response resulted in congestion of the system. Being concerned about the quality of service offered to our customers the company immediately embarked on upgrading the service to the current level.

Additional towers were erected in Georgetown, Diamond, BV West, Leonora and Skeldon.

Georgetown alone saw the erection of two new towers, one at the Company’s earth station location and the other at atop the Guyana Post Office corporation Headquarters downtown Georgetown.

The location of the placement of the Georgetown towers was a result of the Company’s study of congestion patterns.

Plans are in train to upgrade the Whim system to facilitate increased capacity.

The continued upgrade of the total cellular system has catered for an increase in the customer base by at least 40,000 customers.
