GT&T GIVES 10 million Plus TO CARIFESTA X
GT&T continues to show its commitment to various aspects of development in Guyana with the handing over a cheque for $10M to the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, as the Company’s contribution in support of the hosting of Carifesta X, in Guyana, August 22 to 31.
Chief Executive Officer, Major General (ret’d) Joseph Singh in presenting the contribution said that the significant financial injection was only part of the support the Company is providing to ensure the Festival is successfully held.
Apart from the major cash injection, staff from the Company’s Marketing and Sales, Customer Services and OSP Divisions, among others, are working tirelessly to put all things in place to facilitate smooth communication during Carifesta.
The CEO urged staff to put their best foot forward, and to be good ambassadors for their Country and Company during the fulfillment of tasks assigned during the period of the festival.
Minister of Culture Youth and Sport, Dr Frank Anthony, in brief remarks said that GT&T had stepped up to the plate in making its donation to support the country’s hosting of the important regional Cultural festival.
He praised the Company for its support and acknowledged that it has always been supportive of the Ministry’s initiatives. He specifically referred to the support given during the hosting of Cricket World Cup in Guyana
Minister Anthony in outlining some of the events to be part of the cultural celebrations said that there will be room for the forging of partnerships between GT&T and other regional broadcasting media particularly in facilitating live broadcasts to the rest of the Caribbean.
The Company’s other contributions to the hosting of the event are:
1. Publicity given to the event on the cover of the 2008 Telephone Directory.
2. C-Point $200.00 prepaid scratch card
3. Sponsorship of the Guyana Map and Tourist Guide and other tourist related literature
4. Adverts on regional websites and telephone magazines
5. WiFi access to Carifesta venues at discounted prices in addition to the 10 legacy hotspots.
6. Beautification Projects: Donation of benches and street signs, refurbishment of the Brickdam Independence Arch.
7. Literary Award
8. Sponsorship of endorsees performing at Carifesta.
9. Contribution to the refurbishment of the Theatre Guild
10. General technical support- ensuring that all telecommunication facilities are in place for the events.
